Here is an answer if you want to help explain what is likely hard to grasp until you meet Jesus for yourself.
Not all is original with me but even what is really come from ideas God gave me, so I can’t take any credit anyhow.
First, an illustration.
If I watched Hitler help an old lady cross the street, I would not be impressed. Hitler is wicked compared to me. Yet I’m much more wicked or worse compared to God.
God is not impressed with our Good works, just like a judge isn’t impressed with a muderer’s church attendance or gifts to charity.
Second, “Good and Evil” in the garden were on the same tree. You can be moral, and a “Good person”, and end up in hell sharing eternity with child abusers and murderers. On a sports team, a player can be “good” but if he is on the opposing team he is an “enemy” and not for your cause. Until you are saved, you are on the “devil’s team.” That is why Jesus said YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN.
Third, I heard a reasonable testimony that Jefferey Dahlmer (the Seattle cannibal who killed, raped, and ate men) got saved in prison before he was murdered. He gave remorse, he before didn’t believe in God, etc. Let’s say he really was saved. The victims were homosexuals. So all his victims died without repentance in their sins, and died lost and are in Hell right now. He who killed them could be in heaven.
That seems unfair unless we truly see how lost and wicked we really are. This leads me to another example.
Fourth example, if you grew up in the jungles into a head hunting family, you would likely be a cannibal and think that is normal. Most morality and how we live comes from culture. We can’t take the credit for it. That is why today most think Christians are mean for opposing homosexuality.
We are born in sin, we inherit the sinful nature and DEATH proves we are sinners. Yet if we get saved we inherit God’s righteousness. That is the only way to escape God’s wrath for ALL SIN and ALL Sinners.
A holy God must punish sin whereever it is found. I am saved by what Jesus did and I have nothing to boast about BUT HIM! And salvation made me a new creature that can never ever enjoy sin again.
Are you saved? What is stopping you?
