I had said before that character is a by-product of the moral compass of a nation. Psalm 33:12 ¶ says Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. A country who has a fear of God and a respect for God will produce fruit in the nation of respectful, law-abiding, God fearing members. We cannot boast about character since it is a by-product, but it is a good indicator where we are at. Today we worship personality and talent and since our character is poor, those doing worse than us make us feel better about ourselves!
Americans no longer care about character. So what if a former President had an affair with his secretary? You should see him play the saxaphone!
A wife abuser? Alleged Rapist? Had stolen crab legs from a supermarket? Yes, but wow, that new quarterback can throw that football!
A chronic, serial adulterer? Pervert? Foul mouth and blasphemer? Yes, but he is so funny! He makes me laugh.
That is the standard in America. Our current president lies and covers up scandals and does nothing for the Christians slaughtered all over the world. But he has that charisma and personality that people love so they follow him. Even if it is off a cliff.
The latest in this disgrace, is LSU offensive lineman, La’el Collins. He is a person of question in the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend. I am not calling him a murderer. He is not even a suspect. He has not been arrested. He is not even so far a person of interest. Yet despite his innoncene, not one team in the NFL drafted him this past weekend, because for now, at least, murderers and suspected murderers aren’t very good for the team. Wow, maybe there is some decency left.
However, even with that hanging over his head, that didn’t stop new Buffalo Bills Coach Rex Ryan for meeting with him down in Baton Rugue (allegedly). Why not? He would be a great addition to Buffalo’s other famous (alleged) murderer O.J. Simpson.
Apparently, La’el just wants to put this all behind him. How about the girlfriend? I’m sure she wishes she could put it behind her as well. Death doesn’t leave that much of a future for folks down here, unfortunately.
1stJohn 2:16 says For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Today’s lust for entertainment and brutality reminds me of the way folks used to be entertained in the Coliseum in Rome, cheering on the brutatlity there. Now they go to the Coliseum in LA and cheer for a new breed of murderers and criminals.
However the difference then was that the Christians were the ones on display and the ones being fed to the Lions. Now the Christians instead are right in the midst, cheering for the Lions.
And Tigers. And Bears.
Oh my.
And we wonder why America isn’t seeing revival.
