Yesterday I was driving home late at night. The roads weren’t terrible, but there are wintery conditions on the road.
When I was about 15 minutes from home, there was a car that pulled out behind me. I immediately noticed their headlights were out. A half mile passed and still no lights. It really didn’t effect me, but I had a concern for the other driver.
I needed to get his attention. But how?
I started pumping my brakes. He might have thought I was a jerk. I stuck my hand out the window and furiously pumped my hand backwards at his headlights. He might have thought I lost my mind.
If he didn’t catch on soon, I likely would have given up the effort!
Eventually he figured out what I was trying to do. The lights went on. I stuck my arm out with a thumbs up sign.
Later, God showed me that is a lot what we are trying to do with reaching the lost with the gospel of salvation.
We are simply concerned for their souls. Our motives get confused. Our message gets distorted. And in our day and age, if people don’t get what we are trying to convey, we give up. They think we are strange, but only because they can’t see their headlights are out.
2Corinthians 4:4 says In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
We are still to warn. Not because we are jerks. But because we care. God turned our light on in our souls and now we can see the light is out on the men coming fast behind us.
Ezekiel 3:17-18,20 says Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Don’t give up, Christian. Just realize they might not see what we are trying to do. Let Jesus show them they need the light turned on. Our job is merely to point them to Jesus. Even though they might not understand what we are doing.
Colossians 1:28 says Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
