The purpose of a recipe is to accurately follow the written directions. It's unreasonable to rebel against the directions and expect what you've baked to still taste good. Adding a cup of salt and a teaspoon of sugar when the recipe asks for the opposite measurements won't work. Baking the oatmeal cookies before adding the oatmeal won't cut it.
Likewise, you can't expect to find God totally rejecting his recipe for how to know Him. God only has one "recipe book" ---the Holy Bible. The Lord Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. " (John 14:6). The only recipe to knowing God is through Jesus Christ, as He's revealed in scriptures. Jesus is God "manifest in the flesh" (1st Timothy 3:16) and He "created all things ." (Ephesians 3:9). You can't substitute anyone else in Jesus' place.
Today, most people don't want to "Taste and See" the things of God. Many won't "taste and see" because they are are filled up on "spiritual" junk food . The God of the Bible is against the new age movement, false religions, and today's thinking that "It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you're sincere." The Bible says, " There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Proverbs 14:12) Absolute truth is found throughout the Bible. If you're sincere, yet sincerely wrong, you're still lost without God.
Others won't "taste and see" because they like what they're eating better. A thief won't seek a policeman, and the Bible says that in the end times men will be " lovers of their own selves.....proud.....unthankful...unholy...lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God." (see 2nd Timothy 3:1-7) Most folks want a god today that won't punish their sin and will grant their every desire. This is not the true and living God only found in the (King James) Bible. Instead, it's an idol made up by man's selfish and wicked imaginations. No idolater can enter Heaven.

Finally, many won't "taste and see" because they don't have an appetite. The devil is the "god of this world". (2nd Corinthians 4:4) The devil uses spiritual substitutes like false religions, entertainment like pro sports or Hollywood, and the unproven theory of evolution to turn most of the world away from the true and living God. Until you are convicted of your sin and your need for Jesus Christ alone, you won't -- and can't--- call on the Lord to save you. The Bible is clear---religion, baptism, Budda, Allah, and the Roman Catholic Church cannot save you.
Imagine severely burning a wedding cake, yet afterwords professionally decorating it. How would it look? Wonderful! How would it taste? Terrible!
Let's see how you taste to God. God says if you lied, even once, you'd be a liar. Ever stolen? (If yes, you'd be a thief). Ever used God's name in vain? (that's blasphemy). Ever looked at a person with lust? (Jesus said that's adultery in your heart). Ever hated someone? (God sees it the same as murder.) The Bible says if you broke one commandment, you've broken them all and "For the wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23)
That is why Jesus said in John 3:7 "Ye must be born again." The Bible says "The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) God says all our best works, and " all our rightetousnesses are as filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6). We may decorate our outsides pretty well with our best efforts, but inside our hearts are filthy so we still taste terrible to God . God will spue those out of his mouth on the day of Judgement that have never been re- baked through God's recipe. Repent! Only when you repent toward God and turn to Jesus Christ from your idols, trusting Him alone, can you become born again and alive to the true and living God. Cry out for God to re bake your heart today! "O Taste and see that the Lord is good." |
